The Great Potty Dilemma of 2011

AHHHHH!

So I've been planning some reflective, awesome blogs about motherhood, but uh, news from the trenches is a little more forefront on my mind.

Dude.

June pees or poops in his pants 90% of the time.  No. Scratch that.  We are about 97% miss-potty rate right now.  And he's not just missing the potty, he's purposely going potty in his pants.  It doesn't bother him *and* he has a defiant attitude when you talk to him.

Really?  I mean... I have 2 in diapers, can I not have one that can get his excrements in to the potty.  I still have to wipe him, granted, but in the potty is so much better than poopy pants DAILY!

So, I've been thinking about why.

Well, most logically... it's a regression and a crying out for something missing in his life.  Attention?  Security?

June is with me everyday from 2-4 (sometimes 1:30-4:30) while the littles nap.  We play, work on the yard, work on school.  Granted, this is still my down time too but I spend a good chunk with June. As for the rest of the day, he has 2 yo and 10 mo old siblings.  No I can't give him full attention.  Yes I'm hard on him because he is 4 and they are 2 and <1.  ::sigh::

I tried reinforcement.... took away TV and he could earn it back with dry pants.  It works... kinda.  But as soon as his show is watched: accident accident accident.  Seriously.  That is how today went.  He was totally dry until 2:30 so he got TV.  Within a 1/2 hour of him going out to play, his pants were wet.  An hour later, pooped in and wet.  I hate to punish for something like using the bathroom, but they are NOT accidnents.  We've talked about it.  I've asked June and really tried to listen.  He says he just doesn't want to use the potty.

Tonight I followed a friend's advice and had him wash out his underpants... they were gross... he was un-fazed.  So life goes on.  And so does the laundry.  Thank goodness I cloth diaper bc 1. this doesn't gross me out but let me tell you prior to entering the world of cloth diapers, it would have and 2. I can throw icky pants into the cloth diaper bin and they are a non-issue, but GAH!  Hopefully I can find the tools to ride out this phase properly bc it's getting old fast.

From the bowels of the mommy trenches (hahahaha... don't tell me you didn't just chuckle, even just a little)...  anyway, over and out!
