Jim is smart

Jim said something to me that struck a cord this weekend.  A good cord.  He mentioned how it's so easy for us to look at what we don't have and get down on ourselves.  It can even make you feel like you are doing something wrong.  Lots wrong?  EVERYTHING wrong?! ;)  Since we got married we have been fighting to get our feet under us, or so it feels.  We aren't the world's definition of success.  If you look at us in the context of worldly success, we look like this: our house is too small, our cars are too old, are kids are too many, vacations too few, and the bank account to small.  We don't exactly stack up.

That can get you bummin' if you focus on it.  But don't.

Jim flipped it around.  Check this out:

- Our house fits us well and has plenty of space.  So what if it's attached to 2 others, we have never felt cramped here.  Siblings share rooms, simple as that.  Additionally, we can afford to live in a good area with a rockin' school district so our kids can go to good schools.

- We each have a reliable car that fits our needs (and mine is a color that rocks).

- We get to go away twice a year on vacation: once a 24 hour jaunt to Great Wold Lodge and a week at the beach which is a blessing my parents have given to us.

- The bank account is probably too small, granted, but Jim has been able to support all of us on his engineer salary and I have been able to stay at home with the kids all these years.  That was something that we set as a priority long ago and we have been able to maintain it.  In today's world, that's not possible for many and I know what a blessing it is for me to be home full time.

As far as the kids being too many... which would you put back? ;)

The world may look at us as off kilter, but I see us as doing just fine.  And when given that perspective, it feels good.  :)
