Toddler Bed 2014 style

Since my babies tend to come fairly close together and I've never wanted 2 cribs in the house, I always switched my baby into a toddler bed before the new baby arrived.  For June it was at 18 months, a proper 2 months before baby was due.  I was so exact and well-planned prior to all these little people flocking into my house. :P  Josh moved to a toddler bed at around 20 months when Elizabeth was still in the bassinet.  Elizabeth, oddly stayed in the crib until she was 3, but since there was 2.5 years between her and Emily I still was able to get away with switching Eliz out of a crib and Em into one. (Oddly, they were 2 different cribs... Eliz completely broke our original crib so a "new" one was acquired for Emily.)

There is again a 20 month gap between Emily and this baby.  I figured I would move her into a bed in the Summer.  My thought was that I would move her into Elizabeth's railed twin bed and move Elizabeth and Josh together in the "big bedroom" on the bunks.  Josh had been sleeping in the hallway.  Don't judge.  I was happy with my Summer vision and plan.  You know what they say about the best laid plans...

Emily had been living in the "big bedroom" all by her lonesome, in the pack-n-play.   Her crib is still in our closet and, well, she got to a point where it was no bueno to have her in my closet... she didn't let me sleep.  Ever.  Moving her to the big bedroom allowed her to sleep and me to sleep and all was well.

UNTIL she started disassembling the pack-n-play mat and

1. It didn't look comfortable when I would go to get her in the morning

2. She was bound to eventually break it.

At the exact same time, my friend was selling a toddler bed for pretty cheap.  I jumped at the chance to buy it because I didn't feel comfortable putting Emily into a bit twin bed when she was still an itty bitty 14 months.  I wasn't even completely sure 14 months was old enough for a toddler bed, but I jumped in head first and went with my gut.

I got the bed, assembled it, and plunked her little patootie into it.  It has been a ridiculously easy transition from day 1.  It's been about a month... over a month? ... and everything has gone so very well.  She loves her bed.  She can get out of it, but she sits and plays once she gets up and waits for me.  Even if she gets out, there is nothing but the 2 beds in the room so we are good.  She sleeps well in it and naps well in it and I might just kick all my future kids out of cribs this early.  The earlier transitions have always been easy, I remember that from the boys.  Elizabeth switching out of a crib at 3 was HARD... she LOVED the new freedom and demolished her room, however, I never thought SUCH a young age would go so well, but it has.  Amen to that! Transition complete!
