Green Phase Summer week 3 of 11. If I'm being honest, my kids seem to be getting tired of natural water and these same local spots. Even though things are more open than they have been, it's still feeling limiting. However, we made the best of this week, even with ho-hum attitudes about some of our outings, or stayings-home.
Monday we met my parents down at Jacosburg Park. I had this trip so hyped up in my mind. I went to Jacobsburg as a kid and loved it. I was excited to give them another good creek experience, but an all-new one. Welllll, it pretty much fell flat. However, the pictures make it look good so there's that...
I mean, it's gorgeous here!! Emily played and enjoyed herself the most. June was broody and wouldn't get in the water and Josh, Elizabeth, and Annie just did not last long or explore much.
Party poopers.
We found some critters, which was fun. June loves toads and this little guy saved me, supplying us with a momentarily content June. (I will say, for as teenage as these attitudes feel when they come, June does communicate with me. He even apologized for his attitude at the creek later that night, which makes me feel good.)
We also found a small water snake. He was super cool, however, once the kids saw him, all bets were off for getting back in the water. Apparently, there is a good amount of water snakes there, but c'mon, just be one with the snakes! To their credit, we saw a 3ish foot one swimming downstream at one point...
Monday night was Josh's evaluation for gymnastics. Since December, he taught himself all sorts of tricks and tumbling passes, but was uninterested in formal learning. A few weeks ago he decided to pursue an actual class. It's interesting because while he's so adept at whipping himself into the air via backflips, handsprings, etc, his form is awful haha. Makes sense since he is self-taught and goes off of feeling, versus visual guidance and coaching. This class was spent primarily on conditioning and his form, which was really good for him AND he enjoyed it. I wondered if he would be bored or unimpressed. The hardest skill they did was a round-off, but he liked it and we will continue on with this session. I'm excited to see him perfect his form and the basics so he can keep rocketing through his fun skills.
The other perk for joining an actual gym is that Josh gets to learn all of the male gymnastics events. They worked on the rings, mushroom, and horse in addition to floor during that first class.
**Thank goodness for my parents. Since we are still in Covid times, only one parent is allowed to take their child to gymnastics and no siblings are allowed. That's not easy when you have five kids! My parents took the girls to get dinner and eat at Kutztown Park, while I took Josh to class. Win-win all around because the girls had a blast!
Tuesday was a home day. Partly because I was burnt out via the bustle of Monday and the attitudes of children during Monday's outing. Man, I was DONE by the end of the day. So fro Tuesday, chores, chill time, and being homebodies is what we accomplished.
I also had my 24 week OB appointment. Baby is looking good! He's reached the point of viability, which is reassuring. I go back in 4 more weeks. Between now and then I have to get my glucose test and at 28 weeks I will get my Rhogam shot. Things will start to get really real, really quick!!
Wednesday was Elizabeth's 10th birthday. She chose to have a low key day, which was fine with me!!
She had a friend come over for a few hours, which was the first time since March. That alone made Elizabeth's whole day! We also did mani-pedis to round off the afternoon.
For dinner, Elizabeth chose tacos with ice cream cake for dessert. We always let them choose where they would like to go for dinner on their birthday and Elizabeth wanted to stay home! Overall it was a really great day for her and she proudly joined the ranks of double-digit-Conrads.
Thursday we got out bright and early to hit a park before the heat set in. They didn't last very long, but it was still nice to get out for a bit. Attitudes and emotions were much much better by this point in the week.
The rest of the day was pretty low key but included some time spent out on the porch.
Being that July 4th was Saturday, Friday was the holiday for Jim. That meant that he was in tow with us Friday!
With Jim home, we were able to go over to a friend's house for a swim!! My kids will never refuse a chance to get into water.
I'm thankful for these weeks where life feels pretty normal. It's nice to get out of the house for these small outings and see friends. There is this overarching feeling of COVID looming and a shut down coming before too long. I could be completely wrong, but it just feels that way. I don't think normal life will stick around for the long term.
However, I am enjoying summer and it's freedom of schedule and easier feel. Onto week 4...
