Week 7 brought us home from the beach and back to reality... thoughts of school decisions, what the heck to do with our days, and tossed me into the THIRD trimester. Can you believe it? Two trimesters, DONE. That's wild.
Monday was continued laundry, unpacking, and adjusting to home. It was also my 20 week OB appointment. That appointment came with the news that I passed my glucose test, however, my hemoglobin was low. This wasn't surprising as I'm often low on iron in pregnancy. Annie's pregnancy has been the only one where I wasn't low. However, this time that news was delivered with "and we are going to check another level because you may need infusions." Uh, WHAT?
So, at this point, the new test was ordered and life goes on for the time being.
Super exciting was that I got called out to a birth Monday evening. Since COVID started I have not been allowed in hospitals with my doula clients. I've "attended" briths, all virtual since March. They went well virtually, however it's still not quite the same. It was nice to be able to attend a birth in person... this little one was baby #4 and a rainbow birth. It was a beautiful water birth, an honor to attend.
Tuesday we met friends at the creek. At this point in the summer there are many more critters to find, which is so fun!
There is one deep pocket at this creek, which is my kids favorite. You can see them way out in the distance in the photo below.
Wednesday we headed over to Jim's Aunt's house to swim with Grandma in tow. This ended up being a really really really nice afternoon. First, the pool is gorgeous. Second, the weather and water temp was absolutely perfect. Third, all of the kids were happy for literally the entire time. Fourth, Annie checked off her "proficient swimmer" box. She has been working on swimming in deeper water this summer. I challenged her to swim the width of the pool and told her that if she did, I thought she could go off the diving board. Welp, she did both things and was a complete fish the rest of the day!

"Take a picture of us under the water!"
It truly was a great day!!! Thank you Aunt Joyce!!!
Thursday brought marathon dentist appointments... this day was fun ::sarcasm:: The way the dentist works is that you all sit in your car and the children are called in one by one. It took 2 hours to get all 4 appointments accomplished (almost double what it normally takes).
4 kids had appointments, 2 had no cavities, 1 had a cavity from the last checkup (thank you COVID for delaying everything), and 1 bad a few new cavities. Teeth seem to be an uphill battle around here, which stinks because I still haven't had a cavity, but tooth genetics have not been in our favor. There are soft teeth on both sides and many of the kids seem to have them.
Fun fact, AFTER the two-hour dental appointments I found out my car battery had drained. So, a longer wait ensued. Thankfully Jim could pop over to jump us and we were on our way.
Friday was just a chill day at home for the most part. In the morning the girls and I went shopping (no photos!! wah!) at the Promenade. It was nice. They are decent shopping buddies!! Then it was onto bunny traps, manicures by mom, puppy play, and saying goodbye to July!
Friday was also when I got the phone call that my Feratin level was also low, low enough to warrant 6 infusions. Because the whole infusion thing is new to me, I dove into some research and the was reassuring. Basically, the benefits are really good with IV iron and I will start feeling a bunch better very soon. I have been much more tired than other pregnancies, which I had been chalking up to being 37, on my 6th baby, and with 5 kids home during a pandemic. I've tried to not complain because this baby is such a blessing and he's an honor to carry... however, now hearing about the levels I'm like "I KNEW I was way too tired." Other symptoms of low iron line up too, but the bottom line is that I will be feeling some relief once these infusions are underway. I start in exactly a week and will do infusions twice a week for 3 weeks. Each infusion will take 2 hours so I'm looking at it as 2 hours of mandatory babysitters and quiet time for me: things that haven't been abundant during this pandemic. ;)
Onto the non-Susie aspects of Friday:
Onto week 8 and August!
