My alternative choices/cheapness explained...

So I've realized I'm different. I'm not different from all, but probably from most. Here are a few things I've realized I may differ from the norm or seem cheap and I'll explain why I realized that I do these things.

1. nursing

2. cloth diapering

3. cloth nursing "accessories"

4. vinegar for cleaning (as opposed to windex, 409, etc)

5. playing the role of barber for Jim and June

6. hand-me-downs

... I'm sure there are more, but that's from off the top of my head.

So now you can probably see what I mean... these things, if nothing else, seem to go against the grain. But I've realized I'm not trying to be weird, green, or cheap...

I do these things to provide the life I want for my children. The boys and I have been blessed with a wonderful provider. Jim busted his hump in school (intermixed with plenty of "fun") to obtain and Electrical Engineering Degree. When he talks math it is still complete Greek to me, but I'm proud of his somehow technical, mathematical, brain. Consequently, Jim has a great career with a great company. I am so proud of him for his drive to support us and do well at his job. :o)

The biggest blessing we have is for me to be able to stay home with the boys. This is completely achieved because of Jim. These things are my small contribution; in order for me to stay home we have to make sacrifices accordingly. Cloth diapering, nursing, hand-me-downs, and vinegar are all ways that I can cut costs and contribute to the family.

Sure, I kinda get a kick out of venturing off the beaten path, but the heart of it is that by doing these things, I can stay home... something not every mother can do. Jim and I are 25, married with 2 kids... and not by accident. Jim and I are effectively raising our family the way we want to, if that makes me cheap, than so be it! ;o)
