Easter 2009 = No Fun

As a child and teen, I always heard of families talking about holidays griping, "Oh, Krystal was sick on ... and ... and .... The worst was ... of 19.." I never understood. My brothers and I were never sick on holidays. I can only remember one Thanksgiving that Jimmy got a belly bug. That's it. Nothing else.

Well as an adult this mystery of holiday induced illnesses has made an appearance in my house TWICE now. Twice in 2 years of motherhood. Twice in 4 months. Two of the three holidays that Josh has been alive. And to top it off, BOTH times BOTH boys have been sick.

Christmas was accompanied by colds that both were getting over. It wasn't a huge deal because 'tis the season' and lots of other families has the same thing. Well Easter... stunk. There's no way to nicely put it. Easter was no fun.

June came down with a fever, cough, slightly runny nose the day prior and where he looked better Easter morning... he wasn't. We took him to church where he proceeded to shake like a leaf for 1/2 of Mass and sit quietly for the 2nd 1/2. This was partially a huge blessing, but if you've ever been to St Stephens, you know June is not.good.ever. He's loud, opinionated, and... 2.

The day went on and we decided to take June to Grandma's house. ::sigh:: June could have passed off as a manaquin if you didn't know better. After about a 1/2 hour Jim's mom took June to an upper room and prepared to take him to her house to care for him. The kid was sick and it was obvious. Hand me my mother of the year award because I most certainly shouldn't have taken him there and pray that all the healthy kids are spared Junegerms.

At this point, Josh starts to become a bear. We missed a sleep cue and he flipped. So finally we packed up and headed to meet June at my MILs house. By the time we get there, Josh looks run down & is fussssy & June is still down and out. They both get Mortin and perk up a little, but alas Easter was a bust, I get "crappy decision of the year award" for taking both boys, and I have two sickies on my hands.

To top things off, once we got home, this is how our night went:

11pm bed

12am June up

1:15am Josh up

2:30am June up

4am June up

5:30am June up

6something Josh up

7:30 Josh up

8:22 up for the day.

I'm tired, but alas Christ is risen & it could always be worse.

...

On an up note. God bless my mother-in-law. I've heard stories and everyone knows the connotation that comes with being a mother-in-law. Well I don't have one like that, in fact, I have quite the opposite. She took care of June without question and let Jim and I mingle at the party. She's always giving and never stepping on toes. I have nothing but good things to say. It'd be funny if I were sucking up and writing this to get in good graces. I'm not. It's really good and I'm completely thankful. :o)
