Slingin' It...

Back in the day (and probably still today in some countries) mothers would strap their babies to them and return to the fields.  Work had to be done and nobody was going to do it, besides them.  No maternity leave granted.

Well.... I don't work in a field.  In fact, my back yard is about the size of a typical parking space, more or less.  However, with 3 under 4 as a stay at home mom, there are places to go, people to see, and chores to be done.  And it's all become pretty simple for one reason: my sling.  I've gotten several baby wearing gadets through the years but for some reason the ring sling is my go-to piece of Elizabeth-calming equiptment.  Put her in the sling and she.is.out.  It's fantastic.

I've also discovered that you can do just about anything in a ring sling... I've worn it at church, the library, the park, restaurants, visiting friends and family and around the house for that oh-so-fun witching hour that infants sometimes have.  I've discovered too that you can do an entire bath time routine with 2 toddlers while wearing the sling.  You can rock a 1 year old to sleep while wearing your newborn.  Books and prayers are easily said to your 3 year old while pacifying the baby, in the sling.  You can feed the baby, while at the park, chasing said 1 and 3 year old.  And by golly, the potty isn't off limits for that sling either. Your trip to the potty or a certain 3 year old's.

I see why this system was used by my ancestors... miss Elizabeth is getting quite the dose of mommy-time while mommy gets to go about her daily life.  Win win. ;)

And similarly, I came across this article which made me happy that my must-do baby wearing is beneficial for her as well... http://www.physorg.com/news204201579.html
