I figured I would open up this post... write... and see what comes of it. It might not be pretty but it will be documented, whatever it is that's in my head. :) For this blog post...
June & Santa's "trick"
Santa's plan this year was to have 1 large box under the tree for each boy. Inside the box was their gifts... I believe Santa's thought was that 1 large box under the tree could be less scrutinized than many little presents in each boy's pile (especially bc originally Josh's "stuff" was so much smaller).
Well... little did Santa know that this idea would make June's entire Christmas. When you ask June about Christmas morning, he will undoubtedly tell you how Santa tricked him. He will explain that Santa wrapped 1 big box but when June opened it, he found lots of presents to unwrap. Tricky Santa. June is enthralled with this.
The thing that makes my heart happy is that June isn't centered on what was in the box, but the feeling and excitement and moment... not the stuff. I had a little boy from June's class excitedly tell me about his XBOX 360. June's "big" gift was a box of legos. The rest was either things that we were given (Knex set, for instance) or were smaller items (markers/crayons, coloring book, batman towel etc). June won't win the prize for coolest Santa goodies and probably got "less" than a lot of his peers, but because of Santa's so called trick, June has an exciting Christmas story to tell. It was completely unplanned and gives him something very exciting (to him) to tell. (Though I have to say that our piles look pretty sweet this year thanks to some big items handed down from some very nice friends!)
Christmas was very enjoyable this year. We spent Christmas Eve with my dad, Jimmy, Jess, and Mark. My mom was sick and had to miss it. :/ We did the typical Christmas Eve pizza and then went to church with my dad at St. Ann's. He hung around here a bit afterward and talked. It was really nice.
Christmas day the kids slept in until 7:15 and I didn't roll out of bed until 8. That's my current M.O. and I'm pretty thoroughly enjoying it. We let them open and around 9 Eliz woke up and joined. We ate cinnamon buns, got dressed, and headed to my in laws. We spent the day with all the Conrads... slow paced and relaxing. Towards the end of the day we went to Aunt Jeanne's house to see the extended family. By that point I was overwhelmed... with Christmas... with Jim going back to work... with being a week postpartum and being at an all day family function... thanks to some tears, Jim took off the next day (he didn't want to go back anyway, so it wasn't all me). ;)
Thursday and Friday I had the kids solo... and survived. Without tears. ;)
Sunday we got together with my extended family and exchanged gifts. It tends to be hectic there but it was nice... I got to chat and eat and enjoy. My cousin Nick is amazing. He played with the kids almost the whole time and was really good with them. Awesome, surprising and much appreciated.
Now we are officially back to "normal" life... or at least being in the process of figuring out what normal life is at this point. :) Things are good though... I don't feel like I am in that newborn haze. Emily is spoiling me, but I'm not complaining. I'm digging this 4th baby thing. Having a newborn in the house again is fairly effortless. Having a Josh and an Elizabeth in the house, well, THAT is another story. Newborn, no biggie. :)
