I thought I'd update on something I started...
Lately I've been missing skating and not just bc I skated for a million years and just... can't... with a young family, but I miss the cardio-push yourself-achievement-stamina end of skating. So I started running. I have an awesome group of friends that I chat fitness with and my one friend started the couch to 5K program this winter. It's amazing. She went from not running at all to running 30 minutes and working up to a 5K. I can too. I wonder about my back, but I want to be fit and at this point I'm willing to risk it. My back bothers me less as an adult than it did as a kid and I'm with a Chiropractor now so if it acts up, I have a back-up to find relief. :)
So this couch to 5K starts you off with only running 60 second spurts with walking in between. Week 2 was 90 seconds of running with walking in between and I just started week 3: 90 seconds running, 90 walking, 3 minutes running, 3 minutes walking: repeat. Today definitely felt like more of a workout than the other weeks. Funny thing is, my mileage is shorter bc she's not babying you with long warm-ups and cool downs. I was up tp 2.4 miles in prior weeks but just did 2 today. ::shrug::
I am looking forward to continuing and hope that I can run a 5K this summer. You can watch my progress on the side of my blog. Nothing like good old fashioned accountability. ;)
And just for kicks, here is the program I'm following in case you feel motivation kick you in the butt too: http://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/c25k/Pages/couch-to-5k.aspx
